I think I have now been to almost every comedy venue in Calgary and I can honestly say this is my least favorite. I would honestly rather drive down to Comedy Cave than come back to Yuk Yuk's. The room is spacious, the drinks are decent, and the food is over priced. However, I think the casino downstairs really does make the place comedy-club-light.
This is the sort of place that seems like a 'safe' introduction to comedy for people that don't usually go. It was filled with a lot of groups that seemed to be 'out on the town' and not actually there for the comedy. There were conversations during the show and numerous members of the audience were getting pretty intoxicated by the end. (That probably has some to do with the fact that you can order a mini pitcher for yourself for $20).
It's not that I'm trying to be a comedy snob, but rather I'm just saying I don't find this to be a great venue for people that actually love comedy. If this is your first time, then this is a good place to see comedians that have a bit more polish and experience. However, if you really like comedy and want to support local comedians, go to Comedy Monday Night at Broken City or Jupiter Comedy at Oak Tree. Or try out Friday night at Comedy Cave...it's a dingy venue but you know you're at a comedy show and not a frat party.
All in all, it's not a bad stop for a evening, but I wouldn't make it your destination.
