| - My husband and I were looking for some late night food and drinks and came across The Elbow Room's sandwich board sign on the sidewalk advertising "reverse happy hour," which discounts all appetizers by half from 9-11pm. Sold! I think more bars and restaurants should start offering happy hour at odd times...what a great concept.
So we ducked into the restaurant and ordered up some food and drinks. We stuck to appetizers, since those were half off. I wish drinks were included in the reverse happy hour, but alas, they aren't. However, they do have a featured frozen Moscow Mule every week on special, so we tried those. I think the flavor that week was some kind of berry, and it was delicious.
For the food, we ordered fish tacos, sweet potato hummus, gnocchi tots, and chicken quesadillas. While everything was delicious, the appetizer winners for me, hands down, were the sweet potato hummus and the gnocchi tots. The hummus was out-of-this-world good....it was topped with pesto and walnuts, which added outstanding flavor and texture. It was served with plenty of soft pita bread and a variety of crudites for dipping (although frankly I would've just eaten it with a spoon! Mmm....I'm getting hungry now.) The gnocchi tots were an interesting homemade take on traditional tater tots. These were large pillows of fluffy gnocchi that were deep fried, tossed in truffle oil, and dusted with parmesan cheese. I really enjoyed the contrast in textures of the traditional soft gnocchi filling with the crispy tater-tot-like exterior. The aioli with which the tots were served had quite a kick, which I loved.
Service was friendly and attentive. Overall, I'm glad we stumbled onto this place, as their reverse happy hour is a great value. We got a ton of delicious food (not to mention drinks) at a great price. Next time we're in the mood for late night munchies, I know exactly where we're headed!
