| - I really like this park!
I often take my dog to the dogpark here, which is a fenced in sand-filled free run area about the size of a tennis court (as a warning, there's no shade). The people who take their dogs there are really nice and often like to chat. The overall tone of the playing is pretty chilled out, unlike at High Park where things can get a little out of hand. Owners tend to be really responsible and supportive and will step up thwart any issues that arise amongst the pack! Unfortunately the sand kinda smalls like a dirty litter box, especially when the dogs are kicking up their heels and having a good time, but what can you do?
The tennis courts (2 nets) are nice and they get good sun until the evening. They're not too busy till after 6pm.
I really like the old abandoned factory on the West size of the park, and the way the trains run along the west side as well. There's something really beautiful and romantic about it (its also a pretty lovely place for urban exploration, and the fenced off property around it has lots of pretty wild flowers in the summer). There's a great view of the downtown from here, giving interesting perspective on distance.
There's a lot of nice families with kids and the park feels safe and enjoyable. There's a kids park across the street with play structures, a sandbox area full of donated toys, and basketball courts.
I like the farmers market but I find it to be kindof bougie.. pretty expensive and really specific foods except in the midsummer (a nice treat supporting some really rad farmers, entrepreneurs, bakers and cooks). Its too bad that the sustainable food classes, such as canning and fermentation classes, run out of the Sorauren Club House by the West End Food Coop are so financially inaccessible because I'd sure like to be able to join.. minus one star for the exclusivity/inaccessibility of the market and community events.
