  • On my last visit to Village Ice Cream in East Village I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there was a second location in Britannia Plaza that opened in October of 2014. So when the ice cream craving hit again we decided to check out this location in hopes of finding the same great ice cream but with less of a line-up. For those who don't know, the East Village location regularly lines-up outside the door on any decent day. Sure enough the line at the Britannia Plaza location was minimal; there were only 2 people in front of us when we got there and the day was beautiful! So crazy when you compare it to how busy the other location gets; they have the same great ice cream just a different location. Village offers local, artisanal, handmade ice cream with natural ingredients. They also use local and seasonal and organic ingredients when possible! Even the waffle-cones are handmade :). This is all reflected in the end product, which currently features 10 beautiful flavours and even 3 seasonal specials. There are also non-dairy options, sorbets & ice cream sandwiches if you have dietary restrictions or are just looking for something different. Their prices are very fair for the quality of product you're getting; on my most recent visit they even had a Stampede Special that featured Jelly Modern Donuts! I however went with a double scoop of: their seasonal Huckleberry with Coconut Milk and Guides Mint. Another great concoction! Loved every bite of it. Unlike the East Village location that has a pretty boring industrial view/walk the scenery around Britannia Plaza is awesome. I suggest walking west towards the ridge where you can take in a view of the Elbow River and Sandy Peach Park below. Village Ice Cream is a definite must try Calgarians and visitors alike! I definitely prefer this location over the East Village spot given the quieter crowd and more walkable area.
