| - It's one of those things where we go once a year, usually during a weeknight. I love carnivals but don't love crazy lines or crowds. Since we go quite late, we can't really review the shows on, since most of the shows...the last one ends at 6:30pm. But everything else is pretty much open.
If you go on a weeknight (that's not labour day), and after 5pm...admission is only $6 per adult. Also if you have kids in school under the age of 13 or something, you can actually order free tickets online, as long as you get them before the CNE starts.
What I love:
- Sand sculptures (this year there was a Star Trek one)
- Butter Sculpture (more then one of pokemon go....my fave was actually just hordes of butter drowses). If you play the game you know what I mean and will have a chuckle
- Shock value carnival foods...my favourite was...pulled pork cinnamon buns. What I didn't try: bugs on a normal hotdog.
- Playing games to get huge stuffed animals : This year's stuffed animals were mostly Pokemon go...which everyone loves. :-)
- Farmers section with pigs, cows, lamas , alpaca, chickens....it's always nice to see where food comes from.
- The midway....especially in the evening, all lighted up and glorious!
What I don't love:
- Food building needs A LOT more ventilation. It was super stuffy in there....even in the evenings, I can't imagine what it would feel like during a hot summer day.
- Lineups and more lineups.
- Crowds and more crowds.
- The international shopping section....some of it's very international and cool, others is like warehouse fire sale junk that smells of mothballs and staleness.
Is it worth going? Absolutely, it's definitely fun. If you go on a weekend, you likely also have a food truck festival on one weekend, and the next weekend there's an airshow. Just pick a day with nice weather, slap on some sunscreen and go have fun.
