They say few things are worse than a bad first impression, and unfortunately they can't be undone. Great American Pub (GAP) demonstrated today that while they have an ambitious menu, a very attractive bartender and the best of intentions, growing to their second location has left their original location slacking off and in dire need of some management or ownership oversight of their lunchtime operation. I ordered one of their lunch specials and quickly realized that most hospital cafeterias turn out a better quality product. My entire plate came out stone cold and my soda had no carbonation. While it may not seem like a big deal, it was to me because I was in a hurry and hadn't eaten all day. I didn't voice my complaint because I didn't have time and didn't feel like dealing with the hassle. The inexpensive price of this sorry plate didn't make up for the inferior quality of the product and the disappointment of a first-time customer that won't return. Too bad, it seemed like a decent pub. But as I said, you can't expand into a new market in Henderson and then slack off at the main location that made the money and got you there in the first place. Given my experience in food & beverage operations, I can easily recognize problems and I'd wager that today wasn't an isolated incident. The regulars that made up today's crowd seemed to have grown complacent with the mediocrity and they all just took whatever was placed before them. At least the beer was cold. Get with the program GAP, you can do much better.
