This neighborhood Portuguese bakery is located on the SW corner of Hallam & Dovercourt. If coming by TTC catch the 161 at the Ossington Station. It's a short ride. Walking in you know this is a well established business in the Portuguese community when you hear patrons & staff speaking with each other in their native language. At first glance it seems like any other bakery serving breads, pastries, pies, etc. However there is also a small steam table serving hot foods to go or eat in. So this place is more like a bakeatery, maybe?
Anyways I came here for their custard tarts only which I've heard great things about. It certainly didn't disappoint. The crème brûlée-like char on top added a nice touch to the visual and the sweet creamy custardy filling is definitely the best part. It's served cold and you can have them nuke it for you if you like it warm. I bet they taste even better just out of the oven!
