| - We came in on a Friday night with 7:15 pm reservations. We were seated pretty promptly, and our (very friendly) server greeted us and took our drink orders for the bar right away. And then.....nothing. It took them 30 minutes to get us our cocktails. "There is a large party in the bar" we were told. Okay. Not a good excuse, but fine. Whatever. Our server finally brought us our drinks and told us that he comped them due to how long we had to wait. Fine. But there is a problem when you get your appetizers and your salads, and finish eating them, before your drinks come.
And then we waited. And waited. And waited. By 8:45 we still didn't have our food, which consisted of an order of 2 steaks, some broccoli, and truffle mac and cheese. Please remember we got there at 7:15! When we finally did get it, somewhere around 9 pm, the food was good, and of course our poor Embarrassed Server was very apologetic. I felt so sorry for him. However, there is no excuse for it taking almost 2 hours to cook a couple of steaks. At a steakhouse. They should be much more efficient and proficient at steak-cooking! My husband and I were joking that they must be importing the beef....from Brazil. But by now we both had two ( very well made, despite the loooooooong wait) craft cocktails in us, so we were pretty sauced, considering we had been drinking on almost empty stomachs.
There was a couple sitting across from us who came in after us, and they were (judging by the angry and annoyed looks on their faces) suffering the same wait...and fate....as we were. So obviously this wasn't an anomaly. After we finally finished, Embarrased Server jokingly asked us if we wanted dessert. We told him no thank you, we both have to work on Monday, just the check please.
We tipped him 20% (poor guy probably though he was going to get stiffed. But it wasn't his fault) and we FINALLY left. It was 9:30.
So, my advice to the Powers That Be at this establishment: Stop trying to save your bottom line by grossly understaffing your (very busy) establishment. You are extremely lucky to have a restaurant that is this popular and busy in a city that is full of great restaurants. People have many other options in this town. There is no excuse for having only 2 bartenders in such a busy bar. There is no excuse for your kitchen being so ridiculously slow and backed up.There is no excuse for it taking 2 and a half hours to turn over a two-top. I am sure your servers pay the price for this policy in their bottom lines, as they are usually the ones who get "stiffed" when service is too slow or the food (that your customers wait 2 hours for)isn't up to par. Not every ignored customer is as nice and understanding as my husband and I are. I am pretty sure that your 50% Happy Hour policy, (which don't get me wrong, is fabulous) is the lure you need in order to keep people coming back. Because the service and promptness certainly are not.
I am giving this restaurant 3 stars. The only reason is due to the courtesy and obvious concern from our poor Embarrassed Server, and the fact that when we FINALLY did get our food, it was good. But not good enough to go through this a second time.
