  • My 20 year old system has needed a freon recharge once a year for the last 2 years, and needed another recharge this year. I called Goettl based on their advertising and my experience was nothing like the ads. I was charged a great deal of money and they didn't get my system working. It appears that they were only interested in showing me that my system had failed and they wanted to sell me a new system. My system is 20 years old and I do plan on replacing it next year, I just wanted one more year out of it. I was at work when the tech arrived but my wife was home. My mistake, because she didn't watch what he was doing and I don't believe he was completely honest. He claims he added over 2 pounds of freon to my system, but he didn't use a scale to measure it, so it could have been any amount from 2 ounces to 5 pounds (my system maximum). He claimed that adding any more than 2 pounds would lead to a $10,000 EPA fine, which is an outright lie. He also didn't offer to add any sealant to the system, which would have prevented the new freon from leaking out again. He changed a capacitor on the compressor for $350, but since I'm not a tech myself I can't say if it was good or bad but at 20 years old I have to allow that it was. But, because he refused to add enough freon to my system the compressor didn't kick on. He then told my wife the compressor was bad, but his manager could meet with us to tell us how to get our total bill of $650 "back". He left our house without getting our system to work. I believe that once he saw how old the system was their whole goal was to get us to immediately buy a new system, under duress. I didn't like the whole situation so I called another company out for a second opinion. That company checked my system and found it to only be low on freon, as I knew it was. My compressor was actually good and working fine. They added sealant and 2 pounds of freon and my system has been ice cold for the last 2 weeks. I asked them for a quote on a new system and was really surprised at how low the price was for a new Trane unit. I am now budgeting to replace my system next year. So I paid Goettl $650 to replace a part that MAY have been fine (it may have been bad but who knows), and they failed to recharge my system completely. They lied to me about phony federal laws and tried to upsell me a new system that I don't quite need yet. They left my house without getting my system to work. They sent me an email survey which I filled out, and have not had a reply 2 weeks later. They called to schedule a sales pitch and I told them the whole reason why I will never use them again and was promised that management would call me. They never did, but that doesn't matter because I will never use them again, but it does show their lack of integrity or concern. The company I eventually used and highly recommend is $Desert $West Services in Las Vegas (not the Arizona company, and drop the $ sign).
