  • We stayed at the 3 Palms from March 29 through April 1, 2015, during our annual trip for San Francisco Giants Spring Training. As far as location goes, for our purposes, the 3 Palms is just about perfect. On the McDowell Road side, it's located directly across the street from a small shopping center that includes a Fry's (Kroger) supermarket and a couple of fast food places. On the 77th Road side, it's across the street from a lovely public park and a walking path along a water way that's frequented by beautiful Great Blue Herons! It's a very short and easy drive to Old Town Scottsdale, Scottsdale Stadium, ASU (in Tempe), the Desert Botanical Gardens (a must-see in the area!), I-10, and the 101 Beltway. The 3 Palms doesn't disappoint as regards first impressions. It's a very sleek, attractive, and modern-looking property. Check-in was friendly and efficient...no complaints there! Very pleasant and helpful hotel staff. Guest facilities on the property include a guest lounge, a truly beautiful pool and spa (the thing that looks like a kiddie pool in the hotel pictures is actually a HUGE hot tub!), a small exercise room (a couple of U-gyms and treadmills), and a coin-operated guest laundry (outside, but sheltered). According to the materials in our room, they also offer room meal service and full-service laundry, but we didn't have the opportunity to check those out. Our room (114: a single-king on the ground floor) was a little on the small side, but adequate for our needs. It was very clean, nicely decorated, and reasonably well-equipped, including two two-drawer nightstands, a flat-screen TV, a small mini fridge and microwave, a programmable safe, two free-standing wardrobes, an in-room coffee maker. an iron and ironing board, and a tub/shower combination (good water pressure on the shower!). Note: If you're staying here and can't find your fridge, microwave, and safe, they're in the cabinet underneath the TV. Wi-fi was free, fast, and worked well. There is plenty of on-site parking, which is also a huge plus. Before I get into anything negative here, I also want to give a plug to the housekeeping staff. Every day we came back to a room that had been promptly and very nicely made up. I didn't get a chance to meet you, but thank you so much for making our room such a nice place to come back to each day! OK...all of that said, here are the things that need improvement. Before I list them, I want to say that NONE of these would prevent us from coming back here next year...they're just things that need addressing if this property would like to get five stars. I'm listing them more or less in order of importance. 1: There was NO place in our room to hang up anything larger than a standard men's dress shirt or women's blouse (or maybe a mini-skirt). Both wardrobes had drawers in the bottom, which severely limited hanging space (and only one of the wardrobes had hangers). 2: The bed frame in our room stuck out beyond the mattress, creating a tripping hazard. 4. There is no place to sit in the guest laundry area. 5. There is no place near the head of the bed for plugging in electronics These points aside, we enjoyed our stay, and will almost certainly book here again on our next visit to Scottsdale. Room tip: There is no elevator (lift), so if you have mobility issues, be sure to request a ground-floor room.
