| - Several years ago I got a tattoo of my late childhood dog's paw print from a random shop here in town that ended up turning out not so great. Recently I decided to get it fixed, and my husband wanted to get his first tattoo as well, so I searched high and low for a good artist. I didn't want to make the same mistake twice. That's when I found Val and we booked our appointment for this past Saturday.
Come Saturday, we arrived at 9:40 am. Our appointment was at 10. We sat in our car and waited for her, and unfortunately she was ten minutes late. However, I was appreciative that she texted me and advised me that she was on her way. I decided not to ding her a star on my review for this, because we were in no rush, and appreciated the communication on her end.
When she arrived, we went inside and filled out some paperwork. Though the decor and paintings in her shop aren't my taste, I can appreciate the time and effort she put into them. I could tell that she was a great artist with a lot of experience not just at tattoos, but at pretty much anything creative, which made me more comfortable with the idea of her putting something permanent on my body. While filling out the paperwork in the front of the shop, she sketched out our designs. I gave her a basic idea of what I wanted (to make the paw print solid and add his collar, name, and dates of life) and she took the idea and ran with it. When she showed me the design she had created for me, I loved it!
I was in the chair about a half hour after arriving. I took note of how hygienic she was, and how she sterilized everything, washed her hands multiple times, wore a face mask, opened new needles, etc. Definitely a necessary quality in a good tattoo artist.
Despite this technically being my second tattoo, I was EXTREMELY nervous, not just about the pain, but also about the tattoo turning out well. Val was very, very patient with me, and offered to take breaks if needed. While in the chair she kept me talking, which helped keep my mind off of the pain. There was hardly any silence the entire time I was in the chair (a total of about 1 hour) and she did an awesome job at keeping me as comfortable as possible. Once I was finished, I looked at my new tattoo in the mirror and began crying. It is absolutely beautiful, and is now a tattoo I can be proud of.
This was my husband's very first tattoo, so he didn't know what to expect. Val sanitized everything, got new needles, rewashed her hands, and then it was his turn. He was in the chair approximately an hour as well. He said that his hurt, but not nearly as bad as he had expected. His tattoo turned out great, and he is having fun showing it off to everyone.
At the end of our appointment, Val gave us instructions to follow to care for our new tattoos. She answered all our questions for us, and made sure we left knowing exactly what to do.
It totalled out to $255, including tip. We felt this price was very reasonable for the the two and a half hours worth of work, and the quality of the work we received.
We are so happy with our tattoos, and we will be returning to her in the future. Highly recommend to others!
