rev:text	I have nothing against places that are hip and cool. I enjoy a tastefully decorated interior, comfortable seating and mood lighting as much as anyone. But these things come secondary to the two basics I expect a restaurant to deliver - good food, and good service. Enso still has a bit of work to do to here. I came with a 8-person work party, and we ordered drinks and appetizers. They were out of the lobster egg roll, so we opted for crab wontons and spring rolls instead. We also ordered our entrées - I went for my favorites, Unagi and Sake sashimi. The service was meh, which was a bit of a surprise considering how upscale this place looked. A colleague asked what was in the imitation crab (which was spelled krab) - and the server wasn't sure (it's usually surimi, which is the seafood version of a hot dog - mystery fish meat). "I don't eat much seafood," she said! My Sapporo on-tap was good (but served in a glass that said Asahi). The appetizers were mediocre - the chicken and shrimp spring rolls one-note, the crab wontons burnt too crisp - I had one small bite of each and stopped. My entrée arrived - the salmon sashimi was delightfully tender and juicy, the eel unfortunately tough and without flavor - the portions were tiny. Others in our party had larger portions but very few cleaned off their plates. I asked for the dessert menu almost peremptorily after everyone was done eating. A couple of colleagues wanted the crème brûlée, but they were out - they chose to skip dessert instead. I ordered the Mochi trio - ice cream wrapped in sweet rice cake. They didn't have either mango or strawberry flavors anymore (for a Sunday evening, this restaurant wasn't very well-stocked). The server strongly recommended the red bean, so I ordered that as well as the green tea and the chocolate. The Mochi ice-cream was excellent. The chocolate and green tea were tops, the red bean a distant third (my fault for listening to my server rather than going for the Kona coffee, which had been my first instinct). All in all - Enso was good in parts but has lots of room for improvement. If they get their food up to a consistently high standard and train their staff a bit better, I have no doubt they can become a premier destination for Asian food in Charlotte.
