  • Before becoming a member, I used to grumble a lot that Costco promoted overconsumption in mass quantities. That was, until I became a member and realized how amazing it is! While there are a few frustrations, namely parking (and there is always a kerfuffle waiting for parking, sometimes some yelling between customers), and seemingly dazed members shopping inside (who do not have a sense of the fact that they are blocking other people in aisles!) I have to say that Costco has done a fantastic job of curating their merchandise for the middle class consumer (e.g. one of each thing, of the highest quality) and pricing it in a compelling way (they only do a 14% markup I hear). They also have amazing customer service - I have heard that you can return absolutely everything, including things you bought 10 years ago. And to some extent, going to Costco is a bit of a treasure hunt, because you know that some items will only be there for a limited time, and you end up with random things like an orchid and a robot vaccuum cleaner. I have now had to do a check of my cart before I check out my items, as it is near impossible to leave without having spent at least $100-$400, in addition to filling up a tank of gas. Yikes. I will definitely be returning. (as well: verdict is still out as to whether the executive membership is worth it. I'm still not sure...)
