First time trying Tan Lac Vien was 2.5 years ago and my husband and I weren't thrilled with the food at all, especially after living in Philly and New York where there are tons of great Vietnamese restaurants to choose from. Since it was such a cold day today, we were craving some pho and decided to give it another shot. Two and a half years ago I would've given it 2 stars but the food has gotten better and service was excellent. We had the crispy spring roll with seasoned pork, pork chops over broken rice and the pho special. They either have a new chef or changed their recipes because the food definitely tastes better than it did before. The pork chop and the fish sauce dipping sauce (nuco mam cham) was much more flavorful but I thought the pho was just average. My husband also occasionally stops by here to pick up some Vietnamese coffee to go and it's one of his favorites. The food's not the best we've ever had but I'm glad we have another go-to place for decent Vietnamese food since it's such a rarity in Pittsburgh.
