| - So this was my first time in Vegas and we found a great package online through LasVegas.com for the Spirit Airlines flight and the New York-New York Hotel & Casino. I had only heard of the bigger hotels like MGM Grand, Belaggio, and Paris, but figured you couldn't go wrong with this hotel! Well... You definitely CAN go wrong with this hotel.
Night 1 (8/8) - Arrive at Check-In. We had 2 rooms booked, each with 2 double beds, with a view. They only had 1 double room and 1 king size room. They informed us that if we wanted the other double room (that we reserved well in advance, January I believe), we'd have to take the king for 1 night and then repack everything and move to the double room. Guess reservations are useless here... We were staying in the New Yorker. We got off the elevator on the 16th floor in the middle of the tower. We had a good 5 minute walk just to get to our room. There is only one block of elevators in this tower and if you were stuck with Room 1604 like we were, you've got a LONG walk. Got up to our room noticed it was a little toasty in the room, walked over to the A/C to find it on the lowest setting... Guess we ordered a sauna in our room too!
Day/Night 2 (8/9) - We decided to keep the king size room because it was too much of a hassle to pack everything back up. We left our room with our towels on the hang racks (as they instructed if we DIDN'T want them replaced by housekeeping) and came back a few hours later to find our towels gone (we had 3 bath towels, 2 wash cloths, and a hand towel), and replace with only 2 bath towels and nothing else. We called down to housekeeping and told them we were missing towels and they said they'd get them up here right away. We left the room and walked the strip a bit, grabbed dinner, and came back about 3 hours later to find no towels. Called housekeeping again and they told us they'd get them up here right away. 45 minutes later and we finally got a knock on the door. But instead of giving us 1 bath towel, 2 wash cloths, and 1 hand towel, we got 3 bath towels, 3 wash cloths, and no hand towel. I guess we made it work, but little attention to detail.
Day/Night 3 (8/10) - I FINALLY realized what the god awful stench was on the casino floor... It's stale cigarette smoke mixed with some sh*tty air freshener that makes the cigarette smoke worse.
Day/Night 4 (8/11) - Went to the Grand Canyon South Rim, so it was a relief to get out of this place.
Day/Night 5 (8/12) - Needed to get online to buy some NHL Stadium Series tickets. Tried logging onto their WiFi, and that's a joke. IF you can connect, it's usually slower than molasses, and frequently gives errors when it won't load web pages. So we ran down to the Business Center to use a computer. Minimum $5 just to log on... I guess they're not making any money on the casino floor, they need to make up costs elsewhere. We also noticed a number of people that walked into the Business Center asking for towels too (common theme, no?).
