  • Welp. This show exists... so, I guess that's a thing. After seeing an ad on FB for half price tickets for the first two weeks the show was running, I grabbed tickets to Opium for my boyfriend and I. $30 per person tickets is pretty decent! I hoped it would be as good (or at least close to as good) as Absinthe. I was let down. Let me just say: for $30, this was decent. Had I paid full price for the tickets, I would not have been a happy camper at all. The humor in the show relied far too heavily on shock value and sex humor. Things jumped around a lot, making the show not really have an excellent or follow-able story line. The performances in terms of talent acts... some were good (sword swallower, the balloon dancing lady, the puppy and even the juggling) while some were just gross (I'm looking at you, people who spit bananas back and forth into each others' mouths). I laughed a lot, but I also rolled my eyes a lot. I'm fine with raunchy humor. I'm fine with sex jokes and shock value. But don't let that be *all* you bring to the table. I do have to say that some of the seats are far more comfortable than those at Absinthe. Most of them, in fact are much more comfortable. But comfortable seats only get you so far. If you can get discount tickets, I say go for it. If they can pull in some stronger acts, I'd maybe consider seeing it again. But as is... I was left shrugging my shoulders and not really caring to recommend the show to friends.
