| - I like Sam's Town a lot. One reason they don't get 5 stars is that stupid "resort fee" all the hotels gouge you with.
1) Hotel - paid $38 a night + $18 resort fee meaning the fee was 50% of the room rate - geesh! The resort fee covers the pool, free wi-fi and something silly like printing boarding passes. Oh, the shuttle to the strip and downtown is free for guests - that may be worth it if the schedule and destinations fit your needs, but we didn't use it. We booked online with no problem. Note that they will take the first night's deposit when you book, take a $100 deposit when you check in, and then when you check out assess the balance of your room costs BUT that $100 will still need to be released at a later time. At check in they were changing shifts so the clerk threw the room keys at me and rushed me through check in so he could put up the "Next window please" sign.
The room was not fancy but it was clean and had a nice view of Boulder strip. The furniture was not new, not worn out, just what you expect in a decent non-Motel 6 hotel. I'm not a Bellagio or Caesar's Palace type of person so this was fine. We had an accessible room so my companion would not need need to step up and into the tub to take a shower. The shower had about a 1/2 inch lip on the floor that kept the water in the large shower stall where it should be. The stall seemed to be large enough for a wheelchair to wheel in, and there was also a fold-down chair under the showerhead.
The rest of the bathroom was large enough for a wheelchair to maneuver, however the sink was at the same regular height and design as in a regular bathroom - definitely a lack of planning as there would be no way to get close to the sink if in a wheelchair, and I'm sure reaching for the spigot would be an issue.
Toiletries were nice and apparently made in Australia as my travel companion is trying to find a way to buy them online LOL
Housekeeping was very sweet and concerned we didn't need her to clean our room on the first night - Vegas, who sleeps, right?? She showed us a sign on her cart that was also in the room explaining how to call housekeeping for service, and she kept offering to give us more soap and towels.
2) Buffet - it was good for breakfast! We were there at 7am right when it opened and so were a lot of other people (OMG I was the youngest person there!). We had coupons for free breakfast as part of our room deal and we were checked in without a problem. I don't know what the complaints are all about but it was fine and there was lots of food, too much for us actually. The problem is that there are multiple stations with similar food, so you could think all the food is the same, but it's not. At one station there were eggs with sausage mixed in, breakfast pizza, and plain hash browns. Next to that was a single toaster (so small, so sad) with a selection of small and large bagels and also sliced bread. The butter and jelly was nowhere to be seen. Several feet to the right was another station with pancakes, blintzes, and waffles along with hot syrup in a warmer. Around the corner next to that was a station with a huge pile of *crispy* bacon, no raw stuff there! and sausages. Next to that was the carving station. Go around the corner and there were more eggs - scrambled - more potatoes, I think these were potatoes o'brien, and tater tots and then the butter, margarine, honey, jelly, etc. Next to that were the hot and cold cereals and either a milk dispenser or milk cartons, I forgot, but it was one or the other.
Back by the toaster was a station with a chef who would point at a sign indicating what kind of omlettes she could make. I ordered fried eggs for my companion which the chef made without a problem even though they were not on the sign. I also asked for a cheese omelette but she made me two, so I ate 4 eggs that day - my heart hates me! I also tossed in $2 to her tip pile which she gratefully acknowledged. Why complain about a tip if you are in Vegas throwing away (or winning) more that than in 5 minutes? I didn't get food poisoning, worth $2.
Carmen was our server and cheerfully brought us coffee and orange juice, asking if you wanted large or small juice glasses. We really liked her and thought she was very pleasant and energetic considering it was 7am.
3) Bingo - again I was the youngest one there, but Barb and Rebecca are some of the most AWESOME employees you will ever meet in Las Vegas ever! Vegas bingo players are some hard-core gamblers and they are not often very nice, but Barb and Rebecca make up for that and cheerfully explain all the details about a simple game that is confusing in the casinos - don't ask, just go play and tell them the "crazy tequila girl" sent you!
4) Deli - had a decent $1.99 bay shrimp cocktail. Seemed clean, staff was friendly.
5) Keno - keno ladies had to keep correcting my tickets but laughed about my "system"
6) Light show - cute, Disney-esque music, added a nice touch.
