  • Came to this Zoo yesterday for the first time. We had family visiting from MA and wanted an activity that would take up the entire day; which this did! To give you perspective of this review there were 6 of us ranging in ages between early 20's, mid 30s, and mid 50s. We chose to come here based on the reviews on Yelp and also due to the fact that my husband and I have already been to the Phoenix Zoo, so wanted to try something new. The price is a bit steep ($39.99+ tax) but if you have AAA they give you $5 off admission, or just go online and print a $5 off coupon, which we did. I say this is steep for the simple fact this is the ADMISSION price only. All rides, and activities are an extra charge (CASH ONLY). All of us really enjoyed the zoo, we were there for the entire day, walked in at about 10:30am and left at about 4pm. We could have stayed longer but we were all starving and tired. The zoo offers snacks (Hot pretzels, nachos, chips, popcorn, slushies, etc). The prices are typical zoo food prices, I bought a pretzel with cheese, a medium soda, and a bottle of water for a total of $12.00, again CASH ONLY. They did have an ATM for those needing it. Also to be noted for those with little kids, they DO NOT give out lids or straws with any beverages! This is for the safety and well being of the animals, so don't argue with them, like the lady in front of me was doing. It's not their job to provide spill proof beverages to your kids, it's their job to take care of their animals! This zoo has a lot of exotic animals, and not so many of the typical zoo animals. They do have giraffes though...and you can feed them!! It's $0.50 and you buy the pellets out of what looks like a gumball machine. If you don't have quarters, there is an attendant you can get them from. I thought this was so fun. For those reviews saying the feeding of the giraffes is lame, you can't even feed them and have to throw the pellets at them, this was not our experience at all. In fact the giraffes got so close to my hand their tongues were licking me! I wasn't able to "pet" them, but that is not what this experience is about. So take it for what it's worth. It's A LOT more to feed the giraffes at the Phoenix zoo and they only offer it at certain times of the day. The rides here are cool but I can see how it could get spendy for families. There were 6 of us and at $6 (CASH ONLY) for each ride it adds up. We didn't really care too much about the rides so we only went on the sky ride. It was like a ski lift that glides over the zoo. It was cool and I definitely recommend doing it. All in all we really enjoyed our day. If you are looking for the typical zoo experience, this is not your go to place. If you want to see some amazing exotic animals, tons of birds, and really cool reptiles this is a must see. I would come back here if friends wanted to come, but I don't think I would make it a priority. If they changed a few small things, this place would be at the top of my list. Create a system for the rides. Maybe a wrist band that allows you to ride all of the $6 rides in one visit. Perhaps an upgraded band for those looking to ride the more expensive rides. It would also be convenient if you could purchase tickets or something for the rides at admission. That way people like myself who don't typically carry cash, can purchase with a card. Just some food for thought. It's a great Zoo though regardless and we had a wonderful time.
