  • Unfortunately, I must revise my previous glowing review. During the purchase of my mattress, the sales associate calculated out tax and delivery etc. The paperwork was set up for a Saturday delivery. Let me be clear -THE PAPERWORK WAS FILLED OUT FOR A SATURDAY DELIVERY. When we were finished paying the bill, he stated we should call the day before the mattress was to be delivered to make sure everything was still set for the following day. I didn't think too much of this at the time, but in hindsight, shouldn't the COMPANY call the customer to confirm everything is good to go, and not the other way around? I called the Friday before and asked to speak to my sales associate and confirm my delivery for the following day. When he answered the phone, he had no idea who I was (a slight I could easily forgive, I'm sure I'm not very memorable). I described why I was calling - to confirm the delivery of my new mattress. There was silence on the other line. I asked if the associate was still there, and he asked who I was again, and what I had purchased. I restated the details of my purchase and he told me to hold on since he had to look for the accompanying paperwork. I was on hold for awhile, all the time a bad feeling was settling in my stomach. The associate finally came back on the line and seemed to at last remember who I was and what I had purchased. Here is a breakdown of the conversation that ensued: Sales Associate (SA): Oh. Yeah, this is the same mattress I ordered. *Paperwork shuffling in background* Me: Yes. And I'm calling to confirm everything is set for delivery tomorrow. SA: Oh. *Pause* Uh. Well, you weren't charged for delivery *During our initial purchase, he had marked down delivery from $70 to $50* Me: *I look down at the paperwork in front of me* The paperwork says delivery on Saturday. SA: Well, you weren't charged for it. Me: So even though the paperwork says delivery, and you're saying I wasn't charged for it, it's not going to be delivered? *If there was some discrepancy in my not being charged, shouldn't they have called me? Mistakes happen, after all.* SA: *Sheepishly* We were busy that day. Let me see if the mattress even came in. Me: *Internally fuming* SA: *Noise in background is of the SA talking to another associate. He asks how many of that type of mattress came in on the order. He kept saying there should be two mattresses (don't forget, he bought one for himself).* So we got two of those, right? There should be two....Oh, ok. SA: Um, do you REALLY need it tomorrow? Me: YES. I've already made arrangements for my current bed. I need it tomorrow. *Do you NEED IT TOMORROW? SERIOUSLY? Were you going to screw over your customer and keep the one bed they delivered for you?* SA: Okay, well we have to charge for delivery. Me: Okay. *I provide my payment information, which he reverted back to the $70 fee* SA: Okay, you're all set. Me: WAIT. So to confirm, is this going to be delivered tomorrow? SA: Yeah. Me: What. Time. SA: Hold on. *long pause* Between 1 and 3 pm. Me: Great. So to sum up, the office seems to be pretty damn incompetent and disorganized. The delivery staff were perfectly friendly *maybe it's because they weren't in any type of uniform*, and had my mattress set up in no time. I will not buy from Stage 1 furniture again.
