| - That this place has the same star average as L'etoile is utterly unbelievable. Literally, I do not believe it. I'm tempted to run through all 171/159 reviews and calculate the averages myself because there is no way that is an accurate reflection of the world. Eno Vino might be the best place on Junction Road in Middleton, but that's about as far as I'm willing to take it.
I just don't get the mad love for this place. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable, it's true. They will give you a sample of any wine if you are unsure and that is very nice. The restaurant is dark which may qualify it as romantic for some, okay. And they have happy hour. All good.
But I hated the space. It felt fake. It felt like walking through an open house that has obviously been staged. No character, no soul, just a bunch of dark wood and overstuffed leather, just like everyplace else. Not my scene.
And though I only had 2 bruschettas, neither did their job of whetting my appetite and making me hungry for more. Served on pillowy bread with the texture of Wonder bread, I could not discern any flavor in either one. I'm not sure there was actually any brie on the brie fig bruschetta. None was visible under the mound of julienned apple shreds and certainly I could not taste any. The 1/16th of a teaspoon of fig jam easily got lost on the cottony bread. The caprese bruschetta was better, but only marginally so and only b/c of the balsamic drizzle which at least provided a little bit of flavor. Perhaps that's my fault for ordering something with tomatoes in the dead of winter; but if you can't deliver it, don't offer it.
Will I be back? Probably. It's like a block away from my house and this really is the best place on Junction Road. But I'll only be back for a glass of wine after I've already eaten.
