| - My husband and I had been there for Valentines' Day and loved it. So we jumped at a Groupon offer and reserved for this past Saturday night - a couple we know well wanted to takes us for a birthday dinner. We gave them our Groupon to ease the cost a bit. My husband asked about using the Groupon - which apparently was a mistake because the attention we got vanished.
We received our soups and salads quickly as well as the bread baskets. All good. But then we started to wait. We asked for another bread basket - we were brought burnt bread. Awhile went by and asked for another - we were having good conversation and didn't really notice the time. Second basket even worse. It occurred to me - how long has it been? Turned out it had been 45 minutes since the salad. No wonder we were hungry! I mentioned it to my tablemates. They said they were sure the entree wiuld be served soon.
Five minutes later, I noticed people who came in after us were eating. I went to the hostess and asked. She checked and said, "It will be soon now. He forgot to put in the order and it had just been fired". So we would have just sat there all night if I hadn't said something. It didn't occur to anyone that we were sitting there with NO FOOD and there might be something wrong.
The hostess said they would give us free desserts. I didn't want their dessert, I like to go to Cream for ice cream. My group, though, said okay.
The entrees were very tasty, my friend loved the mezzaluna and we liked our pasta.
After the meal, my husband said we would just have two desserts and asked what they had on offer. No, the hostess told us, they would bring something out. One cheesecake, one tiramisu. Everybody in our group hates coffee flavor, only one liked the cheesecake. It was weird - if they were trying to make it up to us, shouldn't we have been asked what we wanted to have?
For the record, we tip on the full amount of the meal, not the discounted price, since we are retired from the restaurant business.
This was obviously not everyone's experience, but it was ours. The level of hostility from the crew was palpable as we left, like it was OUR fault. Maybe because they still had more burnt bread in the kitchen they wanted to get rid of.
