| - If I could give a negative 5 stars, Costello Reality deserves it.
We dealt with Costello when we were renting in the NW. They completely blindsided us with their easy going attitude and baloney shpeel when we were going thru the rental property paperwork.
"We're not here to nickel and dime you," "Just be honest and use common sense," "We're not about screwing you over, " We know this is a rental and it's not perfect." Yah right.
We took super duper care of the house we rented from them. No scratches, dings, holes or anything that WASN'T THERE when we moved in.
**NOTE TO SELF--TAKE PICTURES TO DOCUMENT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING IN A NEW PLACE***
We had a list and they had the same list, to check off and flaws or issues present from the last renters. The inspector dinged US for everything they saw (things that were there already)--they didn't even have that list on them and never heard of it either!!!
They were pretty good about fixing issues and taking the co-pays off the rent for that month. But the companies they used were piss poor. They had to have someone come out 3 times in 2 weeks because the downstairs a/c wasn't working. Our kids had to sleep upstairs with us on the couch the night before their 1st day at school since there was NO A/C downstairs.
And their warranty didn't cover the part needed to fix the a/c--so we had to buy it. $250 for a part that wasn't even needed!!! UGH!
And then there were issues with the upstairs a/c thermostat--that took 3 visits, a new unit and then the boss of the company to finally get it fixed! Nothing like leaving in the morning at 70 degrees and coming home 2 hours later with the heater still blasting away at 78 and still getting hotter!!!! Needless to say our power bill was the worst it's EVER been thanks to their faulty thermostat.
One of the many lies we were told was that the 1st year is a lease. Then it's month to month. Well apparently not. We never received a letter from them about a new lease. We paid them our usual rent, online, but were never called or sent an email message about this either. It appears that they didn't have the correct address for us. WHAT?? it's your stupid rental and you don't know it's address??? FOR REAL???
But when it came time to move, they ripped us a new one.
We tried our best to spackle and match the paints (which they didn't leave any of the 3 colors of beige and brown paints in the house). And as stated in our contract, we paid to get the carpets steam cleaned upon leaving.
They dinged us $850 to repaint the inside of the house. Why? We got the colors to match up?
The said they had to replace the carpets due to being worn out (which the people that steam cleaned them said they were a very durable Berber carpet and was in really good shape.)
So out of the first and last months rent, along with pet deposits (which we had absolutely NO pet damage or issues whatsoever--with 2 senior, de-clawed cats and 1 couch ridden Chihuahua), we had invested over $3,000 just to move in.
With all their BS and arguing after, we got back a whole $128 dollars.
NICE.
(Not to mention we gave them 2 copies of our Intent to Move INCLUDING our forwarding address. We got our $128 deposit check almost 2 months later--they sent it to THE RENTAL ADDRESS, the one THEY OWN--not the address we said to send any deposits to. OMG. What a bunch of illiterate morons. UGH!
This company is so full of lies, bull and stupidity it's sad that they get away with what they did, and even worse, we bought their lies.
This company stinks like all the other rental/property management companies They are NO Different. They ALL stink, they take advantage of you no matter how careful you are, and you are GOING to pay for the last renter's mistakes.
This company disgusts me. I'm amazed they can sleep at night.
