| - Okay, let me preface all of this by saying they'd get 5 stars if they weren't BLASTING 90's hip hop over the speakers. I get it, it's the south side. But on the same hand, it's a restaurant. Slow your roll. (See what i did there?)
I've had nakama bookmarked on Yelp for close to four years. I've always wanted to go, but never really made the time. Got asked on a date here, and couldn't turn it down. I love sushi. So, this cant speak to the hibachi tables, but maybe someday it can.
Arrived at 8pm on Saturday for our reservation, and immediately were seated at a (wobbly) table by the window. We knew we were there for sushi, and we couldn't wait to get to ordering. They have paper sushi menus you can fill out with a little golf pencil and turn in like homework to make your sushi appear. We just kept checking boxes. Haha! So many amazing choices. Thanks to everyone who recommended the Hanalei Roll, it was amazing!
So the order went a little something like this; Spider Roll, Hanalei Roll, Pittsburgh Penguins Roll (much to the disappointment of my date did not contain penguin. KIDDING), Spicy Crab Salad Roll, and the Crunchy Philly Roll. When Leah, our server, brought them out we (and our little wobbly table) were a little overwhelmed. But we made it disappear quite quickly.
Neither one of us really liked the Penguins Roll. Seemed like it was just..missing something. The spider roll is forever my go to when trying new sushi. It was great. The Hanalei Roll, as previously stated was incredible. Who knew you could flash fry sushi?! The crunchy Philly Roll was about the same. Really good and disappeared quickly. My amazing date really enjoyed the spicy crab salad roll. Leah recommended it, and it was an excellent choice.
Everything was really great. No complaints on service, Leah made sure we had everything we needed quickly, and kept our water glasses full. Let's turn that music down a little bit, remember, this is Nakama, not Jimmy D's.
I will definitely be back. Hopefully WE will definitely be back.
Happy Eating!
