  • This is my go-to sushi place and is the best I've found in all of Las Vegas. To say their sushi is creative is an understatement. It's like fireworks going off in your mouth. As much as I love them, I have to say they truly outdid themselves tonight. The array of seafood was vast to say the least. The colors of sushi prepared before me looked like art... red roe, green, pink then yellow creams, white and brown sauces, pink, green and black wraps, scallions, peppers, and so may other vegetables and flavorful crunchies adorned each round roll with such exquisite care it looked as if they had taken extra time to get everything just right. I told one chef it was absolutely beautiful. He smiled and went back to his work. It's so nice to eat at a restaurant that takes such pride in its food. There are about 5 sushi chefs behind the counter at all times. I really couldn't tell you what else is on the buffet. I haven't looked and I don't really care. It's all about the sushi. By the way, did you know they do takeout sushi? 30-50 cents per roll. I hit them on my way home from work and get 2 boxes full for the price of one buffet. It's a great alternative to cooking after a long day at work and you WON'T ever see this quality of sushi to-go elsewhere. Believe me, I tried. My husband, me and his dad were all munching on sushi tonight from Makino while kicking back and watching TV. I should mention that before trying Makino my husband told me he hated sushi. Now the only sushi he will eat is from Makino. His dad told me the same thing tonight. That was before he tried it. After the first bite, he was hooked. If you don't feel up to going out, or would feel lame eating a buffet all by yourself, or like me, know it would be impossible to eat $25 worth of sushi at a buffet. Dear Lord that's a lot of sushi! Take out is definitely the way to go. Either way, if you stay or go, you'll still be pleased. I've never had a bland sushi roll at Makino. They've never been sub-par or fishy. I know I'm not the only fan as I sat for lunch at work today and a coworker ordered sushi from somewhere else. He was lamenting the fact that we didn't work closer to Makino. He had to settle for sushi that had no special sauces, no crispy toppings, no sparkly roe and NO personality... just crab, shimp and scallions inside plain white rice. Boring. Unimaginative. Those are 2 words I can never say about Makino. So what are my favorite rolls? Crab, cream cheese and cucumber deep fried in batter. It's absolutely addictive and when I get take-out it usually doesn't make it home. I've already eaten it on the way. Eel with teriyaki sauce, scallions, and a crispy topping is a favorite. I have to be honest... I can identify the octopus, yellowfin, etc... but sometimes I really have no clue what all they are using in those beautiful little rolls. I've never tried one I didn't like, though. That's reassuring when you don't always know what you're grabbing. I've been eating at Makino regularly for about 4 years now. I can confidently say that if you don't stop in, you're really missing out.
