| - Nothing puts hope in a budding poet than 2 book shelves reserved for the poetry section, in contrast to the 20 plus for fiction, 10 for cooking, 15 for business, 15 for music, and 15 for movies. I swear there were 40 plus shelves reserved for KITSCHY THINGS: Hello Kitty pens, imitation moleskin notebooks, hipsterized bookmarks, patchouli pillow covers, snuggies, 20 versions of Monopoly, stainless steel coffee cups, yoga mats(it's a bookstore!), and stupid magnets that say stuff like "I CAN FEEL IMAGINATION IN MY FINGERS"
But I'm not going to hate, because these are the quirks of a chain bookstore. It isn't Pages or Shelflife, who has a distinct connection with local authors and readers, it's all about the bucks here. They do have excellent sales as I managed to score me some cheap notebooks. They also have excellent customer service, I phoned 4 bookstores looking for a book and they managed to locate and reserve it within 5 minutes of my time. And yes...they suckered me into signing up for a rewards card
Going back to those 2 bleak shelves of poetry collections. I managed to grab a Dylan Thomas collection, discover Liu Xiabao, and score my own copy of David Eagleman's Sum.
