After having an excellent lunch at Papavera some months ago, I decided to try an early dinner there. Dinner was quite disappointing. Caprese salad as a starter was okay though the sliced tomato was small. Dressed arugala added color and flavor but anchovies were overly salty. The crespelle with spinach had little spinach and was overwhelmingly white, reflecting the crepes and ricotta, and the taste profile did not get more nuanced as one ate. Presentation of the tortelli, house-made pasta pockets with nettles and ricotta, could have been improved--they were swimming in a bowl of tomato sauce with no spoon provided. Three medium-sized seared scallops comprising the Capoe Asante special were tasty enough but overall the dish did not impress. Desserts were okay but, again, nothing special.
Service also needed improvement. The server, who was not particularly upbeat, brought main dishes before clearing off the appetizer plates making for an awkward transition. In reciting the specials, she more than once indicated there were only one or two servings of an item left and this was early in the evening. The server did not appear delighted with her job and that sense transferred to the guests.
The dining experience overall was serviceable but not something I would return to try again.
