  • Strictly rating this particular Green Grotto based on the strength of black tea flavour and tapioca texture, this is now the go-to place for me. The cost of 2 large drinks (Hokkaido milk tea with grass jelly, lychee black tea with tapioca) plus tips is 15.50. Don't care for freebies, but they give you stale popcorn (I guess depending on time of day or turnover of customers, this popcorn "potentially" could have been fresh :P) Yes, drinks were definitely pricey, but it's generally an indulgence to pay more than the price of a soda just to have a different corn syrup experience courtesy of any bbtea establishment. And if I am going to pay an exorbitant dollar for hydration, you can bet that I'm A) doing this once a year B) drinking something with real tea flavour and really good al dente tapioca C) sitting for at least an hour before I go and D) finishing off ALL that stale popcorn. Hokkaido milk: I had a taste of my friend's drink, but she could not stop the compliments and calling it her go-to place and a successful endeavour in our food adventure this evening. Lychee black tea: it could have done better with less lychee syrup to suit my palate, but I thought it had a well-strong tea flavour that made up for it. The tapioca is the best kind I've had in a while (and YES i've had allll the Chatime franchise tapiocas (pmall, warden, richmond hill, downtown) before making this claim) So let's ignore the price and consider it the norm, and that this particular cafe is extra costly because they give you real tea flavor, high quality drinks, plus we could sit for a long period of time on a Saturday night without being heckled to leave despite a semi-wait at the door for a table. I acknowledge that there are some bbteas under $3.50 labelled "cheap", but generally these taste like powdered flavour, watery, bits of ice, mushy tapioca. Blech. I'd rather pay 7.00 and feel the highway robbery is worth it as long as the drink is fantastic! *I didn't mention any opinions in this review about atmosphere, but if you are into that kind of thing, they also have lots of magazines in a shelf for you to select from, the renovation and decor is homey and a bit quaint with some mismatched chairs, but I like that the chairs were sturdy and not cheap plastic or heavy metal.
