  • I have been a "citizen" since before the actual location opened. I really loved the concept, and a few of my favorite instructors were going to be teaching there. Although the cost is high (I have the $110 membership, but it is currently $125 for unlimited), I thought that all the availability of the studios would offset the cost and make it "cost effective." Unfortunately, I am relatively under-whelmed by the gym itself and the facility. Obviously, their money has gone to the beautiful bathrooms, rather than to "top rate" instructors. I have to say that they have some amazing HIIT classes, as well as really powerful and wonderful Heated Yoga classes. I have taken Geeny's spin as well as HIIT, and highly recommend her classes. I also loved Anton's hot yoga, as well as Matt H's hot yoga - I felt they really were in tune with what your body should be doing, what muscles needed to be engaged, and when. I am also trying Alexa B's TRX/Barre class this week, and have seen some good reviews for her, so I am hopeful. As a spin enthusiast, I look for an authentic riding experience for spin. I took Randy's spin class, and I wound up riding a bike either with little resistance for a few songs with little to no direction, or I was told to put it on maximum resistance with so much weight I was basically at an uphill climb for many songs. Then, he had us "run" and "jog" on the bike. I'm sorry, but as an athlete, I have never, ever done a bike race where that was actually something I did. I'm taking spin because it's July, it's Phoenix, and I want to still be able to train for my upcoming races in an authentic way. Because of this, I have to dock the gym. I'm not looking for some DJ to play house music or be told to have poor form with hunched shoulders and a rounded back (ouch!!); I'm looking for what I thought this gym was about: fitness and athleticism true to form and real, authentic movement. In addition, for the price I am paying, I would hope that the gym would stagger the classes better. If I attend a HIIT class, it would be great if the only hot yoga class wasn't scheduled at the same time. It keeps me from being able to do both, and, again, since I'm trying to be "an athlete" and take care of my entire body, I would like to be able to train hard and then relax and take care of my body via a hot yoga or heated flow yoga class. That is impossible to do if everything is stacked. I know that concept is to offer 5 studios at once, but it would be great if they actually looked at which classes had high attendance and re-arranged so that we, the citizens, could attend for more than just 1 hour a day. I noticed complaints about the bikes, but, honestly, it's the form that was the issue - if you want me to ride like I do on a mountain, telling me to "stand up and run" is going to be the biggest reason I won't attend your spin class. The only teacher who supports authentic bike riding has a class too early for me, so I am considering leaving this gym and just sticking with good ol' 24 Hour. For 17$ a month, I don't mind the poor equipment as much as I do poor instruction at $110 a month. Try Geeny, Anton, or Matt H's classes if you do want to give Fit a whirl!
