  • (Lyrics - Family Guy - Shipoopi) Now a person who'll write on the very first bite is usually a Yelper And a person who'll write on the second time out is anything but fussy But a person who'll take a picture all the time around Rice in the soups, bread with the spice It's the place I'm glad I've found It's at Udupi Udupi, Udupi, Udupi (The place it's hard to miss) Udupi, Udupi, Udupi (But I can review it yet) I can't say I'm a big fan of Indian food, but Udupi might just change my mind! I came here after a good run with some friends that were vegetarians. Needless to say, as I opened the menu it was foreign to me. I didn't even know where to start or order, but trusted the waitress on what she recommended along with some neighboring patrons. We started with the South Indian Thali; a plethora of curry, chutney, and yogurts. I'm not even going to try to pronounce or put the names down cause that point is rather moot unless you eat Indian food religiously! The ingredients were in small custards surrounding some rice and a tortilla-like chip. We also ordered some Poori and fluffy fried bread which went well with some of the curry and chutney mixes from the first dish. We then proceeded with a fried pancake-like bread with some coconut shredding. It definitely had a hint of coconut taste, but the three sauces that came along with it made my palates pop; spicy and sweet you pick! Our final dish we ordered was a rice dish called the Bisi Bele Bath; probably my favorite of the night. It was a was a semi-porridge rice entree served with lentils, peanuts, and vegetables. Overall, it was subtle, but had a minor hint of curry taste. The nuts gave it a welcoming texture to every bite. In the end, Udupi deliveries unique experience of traditional Indian food that even a non-vegetarian would appreciate. I can never flat out name the dishes that we had and do it justice, but the only way I can say is go for it! - Enjoy!
