| - I found this particular property on the America's Best Value Inn website. As I have their Value Club Card, I could see the savings when I logged on and thought it was a bargain. I was right, but still there were small glitches, none of which marred my stay.
I arrived on a steamy hot Sunday afternoon, after a ride through the desert from Barstow. Found the place easily enough, as it is wedged between a Motel 6 and a Howard Johnson's, both of which seemed, to me at least, inferior to the America's Best Value Inn. I got to the front desk at 2:10 pm and the clerk, John, said that rooms were still being cleaned and prepared and the wait would be approximately 30 minutes. Thus, I literally hung around my car, in the blazing heat of the parking lot, as the minutes ticked by. At 2:30 pm, I finally ducked back inside, if only for the cooler clime of an air conditioned office. John noticed me and immediately phoned the head housekeeper, asking about ready rooms. Hanging up, he said that my room was now ready and he checked me in. very professional and courteous, cordial as well, John answered all my questions and within 10 minutes, I was ensconced in a clean, cool room.
All systems worked fine. The only issues I had during my stay were the lack of any close-by food shopping venues. A restaurant sits in front of the property, as well as a liquor-convenience store, which I visited on my second day there. The shock of seeing a bag of snacks going for even more than at a supermarket was enough impetus to propel me into my vehicle for a ride to Albertson's. Also, the lack of a small refrigerator or microwave made eating well a bit more of a challenge. During my stay, I met the manager, Michelle, who was also very professional, courteous and cordial. But the highlight of the staff is Juan, a young maintenance man whose demeanor and polish belie his years. When twice I needed maintenance, Juan came, fixed resolved the issue satisfactorily and was very pleasant about it all. And then, when I screwed up by locking my keys in my vehicle, I asked the front desk to have Juan meet me at my room. He came, I explained the problem and he returned with the tools needed to retrieve my keys. Al the time, being friendly, pleasant and courteous.
I would have stayed longer, but the WiFi connection is not that strong, and so I took leave of this place I would recommend. One can easily, and quickly, walk next door to Hooters casino, or a couple of blocks further to Tropicana. MGM is directly across the street, but one must cross at the Trop to avoid being splattered in traffic.
