As a Texas native I was excited to see TexasAZ when we first relocated to Phoenix but my excitement quickly faded after a couple of visits. On half of our visits the servers were inconsiderate and bordered on rude. For example, my father in-law didn't like the canned, tin-tasting corn and asked about substituting fried okra (which appears premade and frozen since many pieces are attached to one another in gobs of 3-4 pieces) and our waitress said "no, we don't substitute okra". This is fine but she didn't offer to substitute anything else. It wasn't until three orders later and another substitution was tried that was acceptable. Why in the world wouldn't she just have said we cant sub okra but would you like some cole slaw? Since things seem relatively consistent over four visits today was my last. This Texan was immensely disappointed. To its credit the portions are generous and the restaurant does seem to support the community.
If you are like me and want some GREAT southern cooking with GREAT southern hospitality take a drive to Avondale and visit the Fry Guy (I am ONLY a very satisfied customer with no affiliation trying to help others that enjoy consistently great food and friendly service).
