| - Incompetent or Dishonest? I called autumn air come out to check on my AC unit because it wasn't working right. My unit would go on with cool air then after a little while it would start blowing warm air. The tech came out to take a look, and right away suggested that i buy two start assists for my two units, Cost $500.00 we weren't interested. So the tech checked the gauges on my AC unit, he said the reason it was blowing warm was cause it needed freon, and that i had a freon leak. We had him fill our freon, because according to the tech, that would fix the problem and I'd would get ice cold air from there on, Cost $200. Fast forward several hours, my AC still isnt cooling so i call them to come back out. Well they finally make it back at around 8pm, and the technician now thinks it could be several possibilities, he thinks it might be the Fan Motor $400+ but he really thinks its the TXV valve in the attic, Cost: $1000, but we won't know for sure until he changes them out, but he was really pushing the TXV repair in the attic. I thought was weird cause he didnt go into my attic to check on anything. He event went as far as to say we should consider getting a whole new unit because my unit would be giving out real soon, i told him the unit was only 5 yrs old....
Oh ad before i forget, when they filled my freon saying it would fix my AC unit, they refillled the wrong unit. I have 2 AC units, upstairs and downstairs. The unit upstairs is the one we were having problems with, the unit down stairs was working perfect. Well when he filled my freon and claimed that the upstairs unit would be ice cold, he actually filled the downstairs unit. Well by this time i felt like this was all a big scam, and passed on any of the repair work.
We called someone else to come take a look at it, immediately they were able to tell us it was a Fan Motor problem, and explained how it worked so it made sense. He also said there are comapnys that will tell you your unit is low on freon, cause its a quick way to make a buck, so beware....
I spoke with my neighbor shortly after my experience, and she had a similar experience with Autum Air. They suggested a new unit, a start assit , and they told her the freon was low, and that it should be refilled so she paid him $180 for the freon.
