| - SUMMER FUN:
I have always really loved going to Kennywood. I can't wait until I can start taking my daughter as she gets older. It's such a Pittsburgh tradition. I have been here every summer, for fright nights which I have reviewed below and also to the Winter Light Up display. The potato patch fries are the best in the world, the Thunder Bolt is my all tine favorite coaster and the Exterminator is so much fun. The water rides are a must and enjoyable for people of all ages. Would recommend eating at the Parkside Cafe restaurant and the Little Patch in Lost Kennywood (amazing chicken strips and fries). Probably worth getting a souvenir cup if you plan on walking around and not riding much. It's $9.99 for a monster cup and usually cheap refills all night. There are some rides I can't ride now because they make me sick, but Kennywood is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone who has yet to go since it is fun for all ages. Make sure to get dip n dots and cotton candy on the way out.
PHANTOM FRIGHT NIGHTS:
I'm really confused on why there are so many negative reviews of Fright Nights. We went last night and loved it. We started the evening by purchasing pre-scare dinner tickets for an extra $15. For two tickets it cost a little less than $100. The dinner was from 4-6. We arrived just before 5pm. They had a buffet with very few people in line. The food was so/so, although the burgers were good and they had fresh fruit. It was cool because we were able to get some pictures with some cool actors. After seeing their interactions with guests later that evening I'm glad we got pictures with Torment the Clown and the creepy ax man with black and silver makeup & his lady friend. We decided to start off by waiting in line for the thunder bolt about 5 minutes to 6pm. We were the first in line and rode it as soon as they opened up at 6. After we got off still no line so we rode it again. We then went over to Noah's Ark. There was no line so we got through in about 5 minutes. Was not impressed as it looked just like the summer version and there was one actor at the very end who just stood there. This wasn't at all scary, but we didn't wait so can't complain. Next we decided to do Mortem's Manor at the park side cafe. This was by far our favorite. They had a few actors scaring people as they were lining up. This too was a very short line and we were greeted by Dmitri, the patriarch of the family mansion. The haunted house was really cool with lots of good actors who got my sister quite a few times. Hard to believe this place is a restaurant during the summer. Next up came the sky rocket coaster. At this point, the lines started getting long and a little over an hour later we rode this and I purchased the picture afterwards. Our next stop was the vampire of the villa haunted house which is where the arcade is during the summer before you get to the jack rabbit. This line was astronomical. We waited for what seemed like forever, but were somewhat entertained by Torment the Clown, whom I mentioned earlier because he was scaring the day lights out of everyone. This attraction was kind of neat and at the time we got to the end we were shoulder to shoulder with everyone. We wanted to eat next but the lines were way too long. At this point it was about 9:15 and we were getting tired so we made the decision to leave early instead of waiting a few more hours to get one more ride/attraction in and to beat everyone home. People were still entering the park when we left. There must have been 15-20,000 people there.
In conclusion we had a blast even though we only did 6 things in addition to the dinner. It was worth it. When it's the last weekend of the year and the weather is extremely nice there are going to be a ton of crowds. My suggestion for Kennywood would be to stay open later. Maybe 2 or 3 am and have an 18 and over policy. There were young children there clogging up the lines and running around like savages. Also it seemed like 1 out of every 10 people had fast passes which were also clogging up wait times for everyone. When we go back next year we will get the fast passes, but it seems like we did the best things for the 4 hours we were there.
