  • The vet we saw (Dr Caldwell) seemed great -- sweet with my dog, seemingly very competent, and very reassuring and responsive. However, the staff is sufficiently awful that I will never be back. My dog lost a tooth back in April, so we went in, and a dental cleaning was recommended. I have avoided and dreaded this for a long time, as I can't handle anything that traumatizes my furry baby, or anything that could actually kill her. But I researched Dr Caldwell, found only good stuff, and was very impressed when she responded personally after I emailed about a concern. So I booked the procedure with her, for a couple weeks later. During that whole 2 weeks, I spent about 2h daily in tears, reading all the tales of people who had brought in healthy dogs for a dental cleaning only for the pet to die from the anesthesia. But I steeled myself, and figured it was the right thing to do. Then, got a call from the receptionist asking to reschedule for the the following week. I wasn't thrilled, but agreed. But as we'd finished booking, I said, "And this is still with Dr Caldwell?" The receptionist: "ah, no, this is with a different vet". It is UNACCEPTABLE that they were going to swap out the vet without even telling me! I had only agreed to this because I trusted MY vet. The replacement was not even listed on the webpage, so for all I know, it is some animal-abusing intern with a 1-in-2 death rate. So I cancelled the procedure, and decided that while the vet cannot be trusted for anything major, maybe I'd give them another chance for small things. I called earlier this week hoping to book an appointment for an overdue vaccination. Nobody answered, so I left a message, asking if it was at all possible to book an appointment for just this vaccination ASAP, as we are soon leaving on a road trip to Canada. Four days later, nobody has bothered to call me back!, so I guess I'll just hope for the best while crossing the border. Additional issues: back in April, the vet tech said she needed a blood test to prep for the dental procedure. I agreed. They wanted to take her to the back, but I always stayed with my dog at our old vet in NYC. They agreed to do it with me there, but now I can see why they hadn't wanted me around: they took 6 attempts to find her vein!, which left her licking a sore paw for 3 days. My dog is petrified of the vet in the first place, so making such a minor thing so painful and frightening did not help. Meanwhile, I had to wait 15 minutes to pay for my April visit, and another 15 minutes to pick up a test cup when I stopped in a few days later: one receptionist is particularly awful, cannot multi-task at all, and will just sit there on the phone for 15 minutes, completely oblivious to all the people waiting there. Very frustrating.
