This review is specifically related to Macy's Customer Service via the WEB or 800 number. I made numerous attempts over a month to get my Macy's card (administered by CitiBank) to link to my Macy's account - easier to watch the balance and make payments - oh - and its also handy to make sure no one is making unauthorized purchases. This simple task was beyond the ability of anyone to accomplish - this despite being on hold for 15-20 minutes waiting for a representative several times and actually getting through on three occasions - once I was actually told that my account had been cleared and to reenter my account number and wait an hour - all I got was messages saying my account number was linked to another account and to enter a different card number.
The last straw was a customer service rep telling me there was nothing wrong with my account, kept addressing me as Mr. (First Name), asking me if I wanted to place an order, and in general not being able to grasp my issue - when I dared to tell her that she was calling me by the wrong name and that their customer service system was the worst I a had ever experienced she hung up on me - this after i was on hold for 15 minutes because "all of our representatives are busy assisting other customers". I was not profane or threatening - there was NO justification for the disconnect - she also apparently took offense when i told her she didn't seem to understand anything I was saying.
I ran a customer call center for 20 years in my career - I know how they are supposed to work and how to set up an IVF system - Macy's has NO CLUE how to do it - its obvious that none of their mangers have ever tried to navigate through their chaotic and confusing system. That combined with the schizophrenic practice of jumping from one website to another for account balance and payment information is absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. In the future I may buy at Macy's if I absolutely have to - but I willbe paying in cash - I paid off my account and will be shredding my Macy's card - life it too short to deal with their level of incompetence at simple tasks.
I really wish that YELP provided a zero star option and that Corporate fiascos could be addressed in addition to specific stores
