| - We very much enjoyed visiting the Botanical Garden, which was just about our first stop as first-time tourists to Arizona. It was a great introduction to the environment, and, ha ha, helped us "acclimate quickly." By which I mean it was 108 degrees so we learned quickly the value of shade and copious water (preferably bottled because Phoenix water from the tap is awful; sorry, Phoenicians). In all seriousness, this place does a wonderful job of being both beautiful and educational. You really can't leave without absorbing some learning about the crazy cacti, seasonal butterflies, Native cultures and traditional lifeways, quail populations, etc. What we learned here on our first day in Arizona informed the rest of our stay in the state, and helped us appreciate its beautiful natural resources. We also appreciated that there are so many quiet and shaded nooks where you can find respite from the heat, and places to fill your water bottle.
