| - Atmosphere: A-
I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into North Mountain Brewing Company. When I say pleasantly surprised, I don't mean it in a bad way at all - it's just that the surrounding area could be seen by some as being a bit rough. North Mountain felt very homey to me right away - they were blasting reggae (which is the way to my heart), they had two long communal tables, lighting was nice, and they also had just enough Christmas decorations to feel festive. I loved it. They do a great job of making themselves seem like an oasis in the area they are in. Even though my stop there was relatively quick, it's a place I can see myself just hanging at for hours at a time.
Cleanliness: A
A very clean place. Always a good feeling to have. Sometimes it can be tough for an establishment to feel homey and clean at the same time, but North Mountain did it.
Service: B+
Service was great. When we walked in, a bartender immediately noticed and greeted us, informing myself and my fiance that we could take a seat anywhere and a server would find us. I can't recall our server's name, but she was very attentive and got the timing down very well on when we needed checking up on. My only complaint (if that) on service was when I asked what her favorite beers were on the menu, she simply pointed out two that were the most popular. Most of the time when I ask a server or bartender for a recommendation, I expect a somewhat passionate response as to what they personally enjoy eating/drinking. I didn't get that here.
Food: B-
A first glance the menu seemed to be a bit boring. After a closer look, I did notice they offer a few good spins to traditional bar/brewery food which is nice. We ordered the chicken sandwich and a side of mac 'n cheese. Chicken sandwich came with bacon jam on it which was a nice touch, and the chicken itself was breaded and fried into a perfect crisp. I personally wasn't a fan of the mac 'n cheese - I thought the cheese sauce was too grainy, and it just seemed so orange it looked fake. On the other hand, my fiance loved the mac 'n cheese, so what do I know?
Beer: C
Unfortunately, this is where things go a bit down hill.We ordered a taster of 8 different beers so we could get a good feel for all they had to offer (or at least almost all of it). They were good size tasters, so it was actually a perfect amount to split between two people. I think for the size of them, the price point was good. It wasn't too expensive. The CardinALE Red was my favorite. It was a well-balanced beer that was super drinkable. My least favorites were the bourbon-barrel aged pumpkin beer, and also the imperial stout. The pumpkin beer had WAY too much bourbon flavor. Part of me can't believe I just typed that (as I'm a huge whiskey fan), but it just didn't fit in this beer. It was very overpowering. Overall, the beers here just didn't stand out to me much
Creativity: C
Between the beer and the food, I felt that the creativity was a bit lacking compared to other breweries. I loved the service and the overall vibe of the place, but again - feel like they could improve with execution on some beers and some creativity on the menu.
