  • Poor FDR, having this craphole named after him. Wasn't the polio punishment enough? How can something so white be so dirty? And no, I'm not talking about Miley Cyrus' badonk. The "Scenic Suite" is all-white. Every bit of dirt shows. Speaking of dirty, the hallway carpet pattern looks like an x-rated Rorschach inkblot: penis, balls, vulva... penis, balls, vulva... ad infinitum. Also there is a funky smell everywhere. Kind of smells like feet and despair. The lobby and grounds are dimly lit but the room itself is the polar opposite in stark white. It manages to somehow be bright yet feel dank and cave-like at the same time. The worst of both worlds if you are a jet-setting vampire. I can't believe it was just renovated in 2014. The mismatched chrome and brass fittings speak of the half-assed job. And you can definitely see that the furniture and everything is slightly lower quality. It's no Motel 6, but even the TI is better than this place. Also the place is super noisy, with a hum of industrial noise and the pipes knocking around in the walls so loud I had to get earplugs just to sit in here. This is before even factoring in the aircraft overhead 24 hours a day, the tram screeching along every few minutes from 9am-10:30pm, and the thumpa thumpa club music starting in the early evening through the wee hours of the morning. Not to mention the fact that people showering in other rooms sound like they're in the same room with you. It was loud enough to wake me from a very deep sleep very early in the morning after a late night. I do like the view of the Luxor, since that (at least from the outside) is one of my favorite buildings on the Strip. I love that Bat signal-like light shooting through the sky - it looks especially awesome when you're flying in or out of McCarran at night. But I don't love the fact that most of the view from this overpriced and tiny suite is industrial venting and the airfield. I also woke up every morning with 2-3 new itchy bites on my shoulders, arms, and even one on the palm of my hand. We saw and killed a mosquito but the bites continued. We tore apart the bed but didn't find anything. Even so, we're going to go through decontamination just to make sure we didn't bring any bedbugs home: wash and dry clothes on hot-hot cycles until bone dry, anything (like coats, shoes dry cleaning) that can't be washed goes into the dryer dry on high for 90 minutes, anything (like suitcases) that can't go in the dryer steam cleaned. I did like Fran at the front desk, she was very nice and friendly. I hope she tries the crispy rice at Lotus of Siam. You should try the crispy rice at Lotus of Siam too. Even if you don't (think you) like Thai. I did not like (well, did not think I liked) Thai food either until I had Lotus of Siam. Overall, this does not compete with any of the newer properties, even ones that have been renovated years before this -- the Cosmopolitan comes to mind, and their one-bedroom terraced rooms are similarly-priced and have GIANT TUBS with FOUNTAIN VIEWS -- perfect for sipping champagne with your honey/boo/bae (depending on your age bracket and coolness factor). And if you can afford it, the Mandarin and the Four Seasons are spot-on -- looks, cleanliness, service. We pre-paid, so we were stuck here, but we will not return. At least we got M-Life points for it.
