  • First off, BBQ is about meat and when it comes to smokey, BBQ meat, these guys know what they are doing. I ordered a combo plate with ribs, because when first visiting any BBQ place, always judge by the ribs. Ribs are hard to fake, because there isn't much there. Their ribs are divine. They don't fall off the bone, which is a sign of overcooking, but they pull away from the bone with gentle ease, which is a mark of a great rib. They also have the characteristic pink hue to the inner meat, which is another hallmark of proper BBQ. Now, I'm not a big BBQ sauce person and usually prefer my BBQ with a nice dry rub, and I can't attest to their BBQ sauce, but their meat had a divine smoky quality that was an excellent complement to the baby back ribs natural pork flavor. The dry rub had a nice bit of flavorful spice to it without being more that just a suggestion of heat on the tongue. The price seems just a tad bit on the high side, but not so that you feel like you were roughed up too much. This is place has a sort of deli style counter that you walk up to and tell them what you want. They sell most of their product by the pound (or fractions of), like a deli would of sliced meats, but they do have some pre-designed plates to choose from. After you get your food, you pay at the register and either take it to go or sit in their very rustic, wood-accented dining room with a reasonable number of TVs on sports. They have lots of drinks to add to your meal, including sweet tea, and the bottled craft beers (and other mas produced swill) were very reasonably priced. The only negative that I can point out about this place is the sides. The greens were straight out of a can and very unremarkable and the mashed potatoes (even the loaded version) were straight out of a box (think potato buds). While the loaded mashed potatoes were accented with some spinach, garlic, and some other flavors, it wasn't enough to hide that instant mashed potato flavor. However, I stick to my first comment in this review, that BBQ is all about the meat and this place is right on target with that and cooked by an experienced hand. Go for the meat, have a beer, watch some sports and enjoy!
