| - First meal in Vegas! Meh.
Good Morning Vietnam - their rendition of a Bloody Mary. This was Pinky's drink and he wasn't a fan, well I guess I wasn't too much of a fan either just because I felt like I was drinking super concentrated V8. A good bartender will make a good Bloody Mary with a perfect balance of flavors, not too strong in alcohol, not overwhelmed in spices, and not too thick and tomatoey. I have to say, that although I appreciated the shrimp inside the Bloody Mary, it did nothing to tone down the thick consistency of the actual drink. While the truffle salt I guess gets A for effort to make this drink exciting, but meh.. could have done without it.
Shigoku oysters - was excited for our oysters, but decided to just try 2 before ordering anymore since they said they served it with caviar and some ponzu type sauce. Nice presentation, but what a waste of a good oyster. Sorry, but the sauce that they flooded those little shells with totally killed off the natural flavor of the oyster. I could only feel the texture of the oyster, but the taste was all sauce. So happy we didn't order anymore.
Scallop sashimi - they served the scallop meat cut into thin slices with the ponzu and caviar with the more heartier, crunchier parts (I think the organs?) in the center. Like the oysters the delicate flavor of the scallop was overwhelmed by the ponzu, but the crunchy bits actually went well with the sauce. Pinky appreciated the crunchy bits of scallop and ended up finishing the order.
Green papaya salad - I liked this dish, it wasn't overly sweet like I had thought it would be, but it actually would have been tastier with a little more sweetness. The salad reminded me of Thai papaya salad minus the strong fermented fish sauce flavor and scent (which I love btw). the salad was refreshing and light, but I could have used more potent and pungent flavors. Only downside was that the dish was supposed to come with pork, but when we got it there was only shrimp. Initially I thought that maybe I had just read the menu wrong, but then our waiter came up with another bowl of salad but with all pork in it to make up for the mistake. It wasn't a big deal... but just kind of weird how they remedied the situation. But oh well, it was a win for Pinky bc he packed the pork salad up and ate it as a late night snack later on.
Lobster pho - price is marked as MP, we paid $40 for the bowl. Noodles were cooked perfectly! The lobster meat was sweet and the little brain/guts in the head were deliciously enjoyed by yours truly. The broth itself was on the milder side... Honestly I had low expectations for this dish, but it actually surpassed them. HOWEVER, I wouldn't order this dish again and $40 for it. Maybe I'm just not a big enough fan of lobster to do it... but after my bandwagon-y instagram picture post of the dish, I'm over it.
Service was awesome, and the menu items go well with the cool atmosphere of Vegas... Might even do well in LA where theres a bunch of hipsters, scene kids, bandwagonners, and unknowing mi trang. But as for me, I'll stick to my mom and pop shop, bowls of dank pho broth.
