  • My fiance surprised me with an early Valentine's day present last week when he told me we'd be taking a kyaking day trip with Desert Adventures. Let me just say that we love to try new things, and the staff at Desert Adventures did not disappoint. Apparently this time of year is their slow season (which blows my mind, because the weather has been so perfect lately), so our weekday tour last week ended up being a private 10-hour excursion with Reid (who was awesome, friendly, and very informative). We launched from the base of the Hoover Dam and spent the entire day paddling down the Colorado, making several stops for short hikes and visits to hot springs, a sauna cave, and even a mountain lion's den. The included lunch was yummy, and we enjoyed it on a private beach half way through our 11-mile journey. Just a brief word of warning: the Colorado River has very little current past the dam this time of year, so be prepared to paddle most of the day if you choose this particular excursion. Overall, this was a wonderful and affordable way for us to explore the beauty of the Hoover Dam and the Colorado River. I would do it again in a heartbeat! Check out this company...
