  • 9 days ago I adopted my beautiful bundle of puppy joy from A Home 4 Spot at the Petco on MLK/Craig adoption event. I had been looking for a dog since my senior Akita passed away and I ran into their website online and saw they had border collie/ lab mix puppies available. I called the number provided right away and was a little surprised they told me that I couldn't adopt the dog early but had to wait till the event over the weekend. For me everything worked out but I could see how it could frustrate some people if they felt that specific dog was for them. Petco opens at 9 on Saturday and I got there around 8am because I was told that people line up to adopt. I'm glad I did because there were 4 people in front of me so I went on the waiting list. If you have a dog at home make sure to bring it, if you live in an apartment make sure to bring your lease agreement saying animals are allowed. This rescue really wants to make sure you are able to keep the dog and give it a proper loving home and that your existing dog will accept it into the pack. Anyways, my turn was up and I immediately knew I was in love with my little puppy Freya the minute she licked my face and then wanted a belly rub. She's honestly the smartest little pup I've ever known and im so happy I found her. Prepare to be there for a long time once you decide you are going to adopt and also bring cash they do not accept credit cards. Because Freya was so young she still needed to be spayed so I didn't get to take her home that day. The rescue group actually takes the puppies to the vet for you. They took her later that day and I was able to pick her up from the vet the following morning. Plan on filling out tons of paperwork!!! I spent a good 10-15 filling out forms. They also require you to purchase a collar, name tag, and leash before you leave the store. Petco also supplies you with a free bag of dog food along with a very helpful coupon book that has 50% off many products. After you do all that then you fill out some more paperwork and they go through everything with you. In total I walked out the door paying $335 and that includes her last set of shots, a wellness checkup, plus a $250 vet credit just in case something happens. Great experience and you can tell the people really care about the dogs. It does get hectic so make sure to get there early if you see a dog you really want to adopt.
