| - An interesting, unusual, hipstery, upscale, and quality eatery.
This was an old department store in the late 40's, it has that vintage look to the architecture, yet the dining room and atmosphere is modern and new, hipster art in the windows, clean tables with flowers and candles, an upscale eclectic mix.
The servers wear clean white uniforms but are tatted up with hipster hair and gauged ears, this is a weird but charming place to be. I like it. Everyone on staff was pleasant as well. Never judge a book by it's cover, honestly the weirder someone looks the nicer they tend to be. I would take strange over scottsdale uppity any day!
The food is quite good. Good as in fresh, artisanal, unique, and well paired. The beet salad is fantastic, the sandwiches are fantastic. Everything is complimented beautifully, sweet with spicy, hot with cool, chewy with smooth, acidic with base. Food is best enjoyed paired with an equal food of great taste and quality, and Hanny's does it right.
My only gripe would be the music...the music selection is fine, it works for the vibe and atmosphere, it's the volume and BASS that are disorienting. The bass is seriously way too loud and deep for a dining room, it can downright annoy your ears. I know that sounds like an old person's complaint, but it's valid, the bass needs to be turned down. Otherwise, bravo.
A great choice for downtown eating and drinking, it's smack dab in the middle of everything...talking stick, united airways, hard rock, everything is a 3 minute walk away, very convenient.
