  • As a marine hobbyist, I am the first to admit that I can lean on the side of being an aquarium snob. I do tend to seek out the unique and have high expectations of seeing diversity within an exhibit that can rival my own personal collection. The aquarium, although aesthetically pleasing, lacks any resemblance to any of the well-curated aquariums that I have toured. The entire self-guided tour can be done in under 45 minutes. Many of the exhibits lack any form of signage and leave you feeling moderately disappointed. There was not a single piece of live coral within the entire building, and the marine section (excluding the few small sharks, eels, and touch tank inhabitants), could have been stocked by a local fish store. I expected much more from an international aquarium specialty company and although the freshwater exhibits were more inclusive, they too lacked in overall uniqueness. I appreciate the concept of this aquarium and respect its impact on the local economy, but I would not recommend it to anyone with any experience in the aquatic scenes offered nationally. The aquarium does offer annual memberships which would make it a better value. However, with it being a for-profit company, I would have difficulties purchasing a membership until a strong record of conservation and education is established. I will return in a few months to see if any changes have been made to enrich the exhibits and also to build a stronger value.
