| - Not a bad gym at all, especially for the low price.
Membership is only $10 a month with a $40 joining fee. You can upgrade to a "premium" membership that is $20 a month with some extra perks, including working out at any Charter Fitness locations. The $10 pass should suffice for most people though, and that is cheap.
Gym offers a good selection of cardio and weight training equipment. There is your full arsenal of free weights and benches, weight lifting machines, so no worries about not finding the equipment you want here. All the treadmills also have their own tv attached to them.
There isn't too many extras though, it's mostly just your weights and cardio machines, the gym has personal training options, but I don't think there are any group classes. Likewise, there is no pool, basketball court, raquetball, or rec areas that gyms usually have. There is a day care it seems next door though, but I am not sure if it is affiliated with the gym itself.
Gym is usually moderately packed, but I only found it overbearing a couple times, and that was only in the free weight area. I never had a problem getting a cardio machine, but weight lifters might have trouble getting on the equipment they want. People seem friendly, even with the die hard lifters and super athletic people. It's honestly a very varied mix of older, younger, and middle aged people or all sorts of size and shape. Staff has always been friendly as well, and there are ample clean towels available, and staff will occasionally go around cleaning machines as well.
The locker room is also really nice. I can only speak for the men's room, but it has always been really clean, and it has 3 PRIVATE showers with curtains. (Thank you!) Definitely a nice locker room.
Downsides and personal pet peeves?
1. Ab equipment and machines are located in a tight corner of the gym, which also serves as a mat area. The section usually gets pretty crowded, and I hate going over there to just use one or two ab machines.
2. Cardio equipment faces away from weight lifting equipment, meaning everyone working out with weights gets to stare your backside down. Most gyms I've been to the cardio equipment would face or be parallel to the weight equipment.
3. Can get too busy, especially in the weight area, not allowing you to get on the equipment you want to.
----
All and all, not much to gripe about for the price. If you are looking for a basic and cheap gym, this is the place.
