Based on my friend's suggestion that "the noodle soup was to die for", I decided to check out this place as part of my montly book club meeting. Walking in, the place is exactly what you'd expect of a restaurant located in Vegas' version of China town: neon flourescent lighting; no-nonsense tables and chairs; and a statute of a laughing Buddha set in front of a bamboo screen.
Admittedly, you don't come to Saigon 8 for its fantastic decor.
However, where the place lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in a great meal for a steal! We started with their veggie spring rolls, which were perfect -- not too oily but just enough crunch -- and accompanied by a fantastic brown sauce. No sooner had we finished washing down the spring rolls with Soda Chanh (Fresh lime soda), servers were clearing away the appetizer plates to make room for the star of the show: steaming pho in a delicious broth, accompanied by the classic pho condiments (cut jalapeno peppers, bean sprouts and fresh Basil). In one word: yum. And, when we found that the bill for 7 people came to just under $90 -- double yum! I heartily recommend this place!!
