  • Show #1027. For years, I've heard people say that this show is great, but didn't really understand the reasons. My wife is a huge Celine fan, and I told her I'd take her for her birthday two years ago. I finally made good on that promise this week. So what is it that makes this show so great? I think everyone has a different answer, but for me, it has to be rooted at the emotional level. To start off, I'm only a casual Celine fan, occasionally exploiting her lyrics on long car rides or on a karaoke dare. What this show made me realize, is how much of a true professional she really is. This didn't feel like a big Hollywood production, but rather a fireside chat where she genuinely wanted to sing to the audience and give you a glimpse into her life, past and present. She's immensely committed to her trade and you can see the amount of work she puts into maintaining her product. Her physique is excellent, her voice a godsend, and she pours every ounce of her heart and soul into each show, night after night. She even apologized for being 15 minutes late. She has every reason in the world to not perform at a high level, but the standards that she holds herself to just won't allow for anything less. To be perfectly honest, I was curious to see if she had lost a step after all these years. If she has (and I don't think she has), it's not noticeable. She can hit all the notes from the 1980s. The songs might be on a setlist, but her talking points are improvised. For some, it might be too much banter, but I like hearing her talk about her life and her experiences. It's very obvious that the loss of her husband weighs heavily on her, as she'll mention his name at every opportunity. There's 4200 people in the Colosseum, but the way this show is executed makes you feel like you're just among friends. For these reasons, I have to say that this is the best show in Vegas. She really is incredible. Other tidbits: Entry to the show is very well-organized. I suggest getting there at least 15 minutes before the showtime to find your seat and go through the bag check and metal detector. Leave your cameras at home as they are not permitted. I assume they start promptly each night, and that this show ran late and was an exception. Total running duration was about 90 minutes. And please don't show up drunk as that will be a waste of your ticket and experience.
