There's a small donut chain in Virginia called the Fractured Prune. My brother used to live near one and everytime I would visit we would make a plan to go. At any given time of day there would be a line out the door. You could smell them as soon as you got out of your car. They would make each donut to order then you could pick which ever toppings or glazes that you wanted. As soon as you got your box you had to have one hot, gooey donut. The rest barely made it home.
I was running late for work one day and had no breakfast food at home. Donuts are not really the ideal breakfast but they're quick and I was tired. I was also kinda excited that the place might be like the Fractured Prune since they both have silly names.
I got there a little bit after 7am. First thing I noticed is that the donuts are not freshly made. Even at 7 in the morning. Also, the workers were already putting all the frostings and toppings on the donuts. What's the point of having all the toppings out front if you're not going to make them to order? Also, they're expensive. 1.25 for a tiny donut with a frosting and topping. I had a maple one with bacon and a cinnamon and sugar one. They were ok but would have been better hot.
I ordered a cappuccino with a double shot of espresso (it was so so early) The first one I got had bits of something in it. The worker remade it. Looked at it, dumped it out and then made it again. When I finally got it he made a statement about the milk being bad or something. Nice for him to remake it but I really wish I didn't know that since I had taken a drink earlier.
I might stop in again if I'm in the area but I probably wouldn't make a special trip out just for the donuts.
