  • The only reason I've given 1 star is the fact that I initially was happy with the physician I saw and that I'm required to give at least 1 star; however, after finding out how Mayo chooses to bill most likely I won't be back since I find it hard to believe the doctors aren't aware of how Mayo is taking advantage of the patients. After my first visit with Dr. Crepeau I thought I had finally found a doctor who was going to take my condition seriously and be proactive.  Then I see that not only has a claim been filed for the doctor, which I expect since I went to her for an office visit; however, there was also a claim from the hospital. I thought this had to be an error because I had no tests done, nothing that would justify the hospital submitting a claim or honestly expecting me to pay them anything. According to my insurance even though I went in strictly for an office visit and that is all that was done, since the doctor is based inside the hospital they can and will bill me for a "facility charge". I am completely shocked and well as angry because this is not in the paperwork, the registration personnel didn't address this either and it's absolutely something patients should be told. I spoke to Scott E. in Mayo's billing office who was extremely rude and condescending. Instead of listening to my concerns and being professional he spent more time interrupting me and basically told me they will do whatever they want and I can't do anything about it. Actually I can, I don't have to go back and I can make sure that other people who are looking for quality healthcare understand that Mayo is looking for profit over healthcare. I need to be sure my health is taken seriously and that I'm not just looked at as dollar signs. When I asked for a supervisor Scott E. then tried to lay the blame for the extra cost on how the insurance processed the claim. I was told that it doesn't matter if they billed the physician claim at a higher cost or the two separate claims I would still be responsible for the same amount. I know how insurance works and I know how to read my EOB's so I know this isn't true. FYI - physicians/facilities who have a contract with insurance are only going to be paid a certain amount based on the codes they bill, so upping the cost on the physician claim wouldn't have gotten them paid more money, hence the reason for the two claims, more money. Of course he was "so sorry" none of this was disclosed prior to my visit, this apology came after I asked if the call was recorded so someone would be able to hear how unprofessional he was being. This whole situation is absolutely ridiculous and more proof of why healthcare is in such terrible shape, physicians and facilities collecting money just for profit, not for actually provided services.  Right now the bill isn't horrible because I'm only paying a percent; however, next year it would be over $100 just for the facility charge plus the doctor fee. Thank you Mayo for showing you are just looking for the profits, it is so disappointing.  Stop with all the art and fancy decorations then you would't have to worry about ways to find more money, essentially ripping off the people who depend on you for their healthcare.
