| - SOLID 4 STARS.
I attempted to come here last fall and much to my surprise it was closed for a business party, I was pretty bummed, Today i was passing through Madison and needed to have some lunch, so i took the drive off the freeway right up the the capitol square. drove around attmepted to find parking and didn't have much luck, Till i spotted a parking garage about a block away off Webster and Miffin.
Everyone RAVES about the cheese curds, so that was a no brainer i'll have to try it. I also got the house old fashioned burger topped Bavaria's hickory-smoked bacon, aged Cheddar, garlic sauce and a soft-cooked egg on a buttered and toasted roll (It also comes with fried onions but i asked for those to be left off) My fiance ordered the Chilli Cheese dog.
Quickly after ordering our cheese curds came out, And let me tell you They are AWESOME. From someone who has gone to many "famous cheese curd spots" and had a large variety of deep fried cheese, These are easily in the top 3 or 4 of best i've ever had. Well worth an order or two or maybe three? Butter Milk ranch dipping sauce was a great addition.
The main course came soon after the egg on the burger was just as described with the "soft cooked" as soon as i grabbed the burger the egg yolk burst all over, AWESOME. I typically HATE egg yolks unless the yolk is running over something like an great cheeseburger, and that's just what this place has. the meat was good, the bacon was really good. the garlic sauce was different but a good addition to the burger. My 1 complaint on the burger is they must use a sharp or extra sharp chedder for the burger as it was quite strong, atleast for my liking, then again i'm not a fan of sharp chedder. The French fries are also very good, My Fiance also enjoyed the Chili cheese dog, The pricing was fair for what we got,
If you're in the Madison area you should REALLY make it a point to come to the Old Fashioned!
